Well, if you're here, then you already know what the first assignment is: create a blog site using blogger. Blogging is a strange, prolific phenomenon these days and something worthy of examination and practice.
For class purposes, blogging is replacing the traditional journal writing/reflection piece. I will be navigating around these blogs a lot, grading not only what you are saying on your own page, but your comments on others.
The big, fancy word for talking to each other through the blogs and comments is "asynchronous discussion" and there are a few reasons why we do it:
1) It gives you time to think about what we're learning outside the classroom, since we don't only practice what we learn in the classroom.
2) It provides an opportunity for and, in fact, forces every voice to be heard.
Like we talked about in class, I use a lot of technology in the classroom. Some may even consider my classes 'hybrid learning environments.' I'll expound more on that in a later post.
